I’ve heard of scams going on from many sources, but never really thought I would get this one.
And since I have 8 minutes before my next meeting starts, I googled ‘power root scam’ and got over 90,000 hits.
Someone shared on a forum that he’s tried calling the so-called ‘Office’, and his call was answered by a man. He said this guy (who answered the phone) sounded like an Indonesian, asked him to buy prepaid cards before he can claim his money. Long story short, in the end, this caller told the ‘Indonesian guy’ that he’s a police from Bukit Aman.
Funny, really. Why some people can still fall for this kind of pranks. I mean, from a single glance at the message you can already tell it’s not professional. What with the mixed up case, the spelling mistakes... just to name a couple. And to have a mobile number as the ‘Office’ no., what were they thinking? Using a local company name... means using a local FIXED line number!
Oh well, I can rant all about this all day but i’d rather save my energy for the meeting. Which is starting NOW!
Read up on the official warning from Power Root Sdn Bhd in The Star (http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/2/12/nation/20090212202036&sec=nation), or google it.
