Huppy

A sort-of-new friend asked me on Monday, after figuring out my real name: "Then how come people call you Puppy?"
My reaction to this question was, obviously:    =O (that's a smiley, get it?)

He looked bewildered at my reaction as much as I was bewildered by his question.

After a while (thanks to another friend who was a great 'moderator') we found out that this 'new' friend was given wrong information on my name.  But being a guy, ahem, he immediately created a new name for me -- after he figured out what people actually call me la.  Can you guess what it is?  Yeah, 'Huppy'!

The first thing that came to my mind, since I thought it was spelled 'Harpy' was... you guess right - harpies!  The ugly-looking creatures from the Greek mythology that punishes wrong-doers.  I know I'm  not the best looking person, but to be linked with those creatures, give me a break!  But then again, I have been known to give cruel punishments to the people I hate.  So maybe there's a point....

Honestly, people have been calling me by all sorts of names but this one gives such impact that I just couldn't get it off my head.  So I shared a page on harpies (http://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Harpyiai.html), hoping they'd 'empathize'.

I found out later that the spelling he had in mind was 'Huppy' and not 'Harpie'.  That's a bit of a relief.  At least ugly-looking is out of the picture.  But another question came to mind -- what's Huppy?  And so I Googled for the word.  Only 1 website described the word -- Urban Dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Huppy):

Huppy
  1. A Huppy is an environmentally conscious Yuppie (huhhhh!?!).  Like their parents from the 80's they are upper middle class, high end car owners, have one child, frequent wine tastings and support local entrepenuers.  But Huppies drive hybrids, eat only organic foods, are aware of their carbon footprints, have solar panels on their roof, have their own compost heaps, support local artists, and listen to folk and world music.
  2. A couple of cool people preferably from texas and/or florida.
  3. A Huppy is a tall gangly boy with really white skin and freckles.  He also has blue eyes and big puffy hair. "Oh, look at him... isn't he cute? He is such a Huppy."

My say:
For definition #1, definitely a true-blue Aquarian!  Environmentally concious, eccentric, yadda.. yadda... Ironic though, because I'm an Aquarian but I'm not like that.  I mean I'm on the same team with Miss Universe in, ahem, 'World Peace' and I listen to The Corrs folks and other international artistes (that's gotta have somthing to do with 'world songs' right?).  Heck, I even like the song on Discovery Channel -- 'boom be ba dah, boom be ba dah!'.  Owning high end cars would be great, but eat ONLY organic food?  Gosh, don't they know how expensive these food are in Malaysia?  And I don't even know how my footprints look like.  Gosh...!

Definition #2 and #3 are totally out of the question -- I'm not from Florida/Texas, although I'd like to consider myself as 'cool' (LMAO!).  And I'm not a boy, definitely not tall, no pale skin, no blue eyes, no freckles -- I'm Asian for goodness sake!

So, ok, I guess that justifies that I shouldn't be called Huppy.

But if you insist, Selvan, just you wait until I figure out a name to call you! *sticks out tongue!*
